How our reviews are made

Our reviews are research-based. We read the published studies, the manufacturer's own claims, terms and safety information, and patterns in public owner reviews. Unless a review clearly says otherwise, we have not personally tested the product. Opinions are presented as opinions. Prices, ratings and policies are dated in each review and can change after we check them.

Device safety

Some products on this site send a mild electrical current through the skin (transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation, or tVNS). Others use vibration, flashing light, sound or electromagnetic signals. Don't use them without your doctor's go-ahead if you:

  • have a pacemaker, defibrillator or any other implanted electronic device
  • have metal implants in your neck or head
  • are pregnant
  • have epilepsy or a history of seizures, which also rules out flashing-light tools
  • have a heart condition, such as atrial fibrillation or a very slow heart rate

Always follow the manufacturer's own list of warnings. It's often longer than this one.

New palpitations, night sweats, insomnia or anxiety deserve a medical check before you put them down to stress.
